Search Engine Usage Statistics for February 2006

Nielson/Net Ratings has released new search engine statistics for Feb 2006. Each of the search engines is maintaining their market share with less than 1% change in the main search engines. Overall, there were 5.3 billion searches performed in February of 2006, which is up from the 3.8 billion in February of 2005.

Search Engine Share of Searches
Google 48.5%
Yahoo 22.5%
MSN 10.7%
AOL 6.6%

With over 5 billion searches happening in a single month and growing, it appears that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) will become more and more important as people turn to the Internet to find what they need.

This post about the Search Engine Usage Statisctics gor Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL is very informative. Though it was just published five years ago. It could still be used for comparison with the current statistics. I am pretty sure that there is now a significant relevance between the two. In this issue it only shows that Google, the world´s most used search engine, comprises 48.5. The latest that I had read is it already reaches up to 68. And MSN is now known as Bing.
