Jagger Updates - Google's October 2005 PageRank/BackLink Updates will come in smaller pieces and quick frequent updates.

The recent October 2005 PageRank update has changed from the normal 3 month PageRank updates we have been seeing. This update, codenamed "Jagger", will come out in smaller pieces, "Jagger 1", "Jagger 2", "Jagger 3", etc. Each of these updates will focus on specific smaller items. At this webmasterworld post GoogleGuy gives us the following information on the updates and where to find them.

I expect Jagger2 to start at 66.102.9.x [104]. It will probably stay at 1-2 data centers for the next several days rather than spreading quickly. But that data center shows the direction that things will be moving in (bear in mind that things are fluxing, and Jagger3 will cause flux as well).

If things stay on the same schedule (which I can't promise, but I'll keep you posted if I learn more), Jagger3 might be visible at one data center next week. Folks should have several weeks to give us feedback on Jagger3 as it gradually becomes more visible at more data centers.

I noticed this change when I was checking the backlinks to one of my sites. With the first Jagger update my backlinks fell by 20. That was quite disheartening. However, just a few days after that, I saw that my backlinks were back up again. With some quick research I found out about these smaller Jagger updates. I also noticed that a number of the "spammers" that had suddenly appeared in the SERPs (above my results I might add) have been removed or have fallen down the SERPs.

Although the PageRank and Backlinks reported by Google have very little relevence to the "current" PageRank and Backlinks that Google uses, it is always nice to see that your site is in fact moving where you think it should be moving. Following these Jagger updates on specific IPs (66.102.9.104) will help you have the heads up as to where your sites will be going and whether or not you need to do something about it.
