will having an RSS feed on my site (content being fed to my website from another site), give me credit with the search engines for having fresher, updated content?

Thanks,

T. J.

This is a two part question. First, yes you will be recognized as having "fresh" content. However, if Google finds the exact same (word for word) information that is on your page as another page or another site, you will be penalized. Think of it like this, if you came across 10 pages with all the same content, which would you rank higher than the others. you wouldn´t be able to. Furthermore, Google wants fresh new content. So if the same information is found on multiple pages, it is more common knowledge and not as important as something that is not found on other pages.

I understand if we have firefox. What if we do not, how do we get the RSS feed to site?
Thank you.

The newest IE 7 will also have RSS support built into the browser so you will be able to read (or subscribe) to feeds. Other ways you can keep tabs on various feeds is to subscribe to a feed service like bloglines, my yahoo, or Google Personalized Home. Then you just add the URL of the feed (for example http://www.ahfx.net/rss.php) to the feed reader and it will automatically compile the "newest" info for you and keep track of what you have already read.

A simpler way to "subscribe" to a feed is to click on "subscribe" buttons (like the ones found on the right hand side of this page) for common feed aggregators like bloglines.

Im still trying to figure out how to advertise my feed, its quite tricky once youve created your feed.
